A Shakespearean Sonnet: For Women
We are the women who feel like water.
An endless stream of knowledge in each wave.
We are the shelter to the scared otters.
A home for the creatures to be safe.
We are the woman who feel like green trees
We rely off of our sisters for our growth.
Our dry roots know nothing, but how to plea.
We feel a break in our bones, it’s not a hoax.
We are the woman who feel like fresh air.
Our purpose in life is to fill you chest.
Our sisters will suffer to help us care.
Cut off the circulation to our breast.
We are women who are killing each other.
A big forest who needs one another.
Reflection:
Sonnets have taught me about the importance of expanding your knowledge about what you are passionate about. Poetry has always been an escape for me. There are times when writing can get repetitive. Words overlap words and you can find yourself getting conditioned to not liking what you are writing. When we began writing sonnets I knew that I was going to struggle with the following he rules. I am a person who is very set in their own ways for I had to push myself in order to finish the requirements. I truly think that sonnets helped me get out of the habits that I had made myself conform to as a writer. Sonnet writing pushed me to create something that was structured, but I connected to. I learned that there are multiple different types of sonnet writing formats. I learned that they are not the easiest type of poetry to make. For my sonnet I compared a woman's emotions to nature. I related feelings to water, green trees, and fresh air. After I related it to women I went further into detail of explaing who women are attached to nature. The outcome of this sonnet brings me so much joy. I was able to get across what I felt a lot of women can relate to and I plan on making further edits and possibly add it to my work that I keep for college.
